数划记 = kira gundalan 每一束是 5 条，先数有几束，乘以 5，再加上散的短线。 例子：一束加 4 条 = 9。 注意：捆起来的一束是 5 条，不是 4 条；数完可以再从头一条一条数一次核对。

counting tallies = kira gundalan Each bundle is 5 strokes: count the bundles, multiply by 5, then add the loose strokes. Example: one bundle and 4 strokes = 9. Watch out: a bundle is 5 strokes, not 4; you can count stroke by stroke once more to check.

核对总数 = semak jumlah 表格里的总数应该等于访问的人数。总数比较少，表示什么？ 例子：访问 10 人，表格总数 11，表示有人记了两次。 注意：没有兄弟姐妹的同学也要记录在“0”那一行，不能因为是 0 就不记。

checking the total = semak jumlah The table's total should equal the number of people asked. What does a smaller total mean? Example: 10 people asked but a table total of 11 means someone was recorded twice. Watch out: pupils with no siblings are still recorded in the '0' row; a 0 answer still counts.

选刻度的理由 = sebab pilih senggatan 最大的数字决定刻度要画多高。数字小的时候，每格 1 就够了。 例子：最大是 40，每格 1 就太多格了。 注意：先看表格里最大的数字，再决定刻度每一格的大小，长条最好刚好停在刻度线上。

why this scale = sebab pilih senggatan The biggest number decides how high the scale must go. When the numbers are small, steps of 1 are enough. Example: if the biggest were 40, steps of 1 would need far too many steps. Watch out: look at the biggest number in the table first, then choose the step size so the bars end neatly on scale lines.
