求减数 = cari nombor yang ditolak r 在减号后面，是减去的数。用原来的数减去剩下的数，就得到 r；个位不够减时要借位。最后把 r 放回原式检查。 例子：60 − r = 25 → r = 60 − 25 = 35；检查 60 − 35 = 25。 注意：这一类不能用加法；借位后十位要少 1。

find the number taken away = cari nombor yang ditolak r comes after the minus sign, so it is the number taken away. Subtract what is left from the starting number, regrouping when needed, then put r back to check. Example: 60 − r = 25, so r = 60 − 25 = 35; check 60 − 35 = 25. Watch out: do not add here, and after regrouping the tens are 1 less.

求被减数 = cari nombor asal h 在减号前面，是原来的数。把剩下的数和减去的数加回来，就是原来的数；个位满十要进位。最后放回原式检查。 例子：h − 30 = 45 → h = 45 + 30 = 75；检查 75 − 30 = 45。 注意：未知数在前面要用加法；如果用两个数相减，方向就反了。

Example: h − 30 = 45, so h = 45 + 30 = 75; check 75 − 30 = 45. Watch out: an unknown at the front is found by adding; subtracting the two numbers goes the wrong way.

较大的数 = nombor lebih besar v 在减号后面，是减去的数：v = 原来的数 − 剩下的数。数比较大时可以分两步减：先减千，再减百。算完放回原式检查。 例子：10 000 − v = 2 500 → 10 000 − 2 000 = 8 000，再减 500 → v = 7 500；检查 10 000 − 7 500 = 2 500。 注意：分两步减时，第二步也是减，不要加回去。

bigger numbers = nombor lebih besar v comes after the minus sign, so v = starting number − what is left. With big numbers, subtract in two steps: the thousands first, then the hundreds. Check in the sentence. Example: 10 000 − v = 2 500: 10 000 − 2 000 = 8 000, then − 500 gives v = 7 500; check 10 000 − 7 500 = 2 500. Watch out: the second step is also a subtraction; do not add it back.

写出算式 = tulis ayat matematik 题目要你选出能表示这个故事的算式。原来有多少颗珠子不知道，用字母表示；送给妹妹是减少，所以用减号；剩下的数量写在等号另一边。原来的数一定写在减号前面。 例子：花掉 RM8 以后还剩 RM20 → d − 8 = 20。 注意：送出去、用掉、卖掉都是减少；原来的数和送出的数位置不能对调。

write the number sentence = tulis ayat matematik Choose the number sentence that matches the story. The starting number of beads is unknown, so it is a letter; giving some away makes it smaller, so use minus; what is left goes on the other side of the equals sign. The starting number goes before the minus sign. Example: after spending RM8 there is RM20 left, so d − 8 = 20. Watch out: giving away, using and selling all make an amount smaller, and the starting number and the amount given away cannot swap places.
