hormat = 尊重
respect = hormat
Respecting neighbours means valuing their feelings, rights and peace. People in the same housing area or flat share lifts, corridors and pools, so everyone must follow the rules. This unit covers respectful behaviour, visiting manners and the benefits of respect.
Example: the lift in Arif's flat has a notice: 'Give way to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.'
Watch out: respect also includes not intruding on neighbours' private lives.
Kenali
Patuhi peraturan kediaman
following residential rules = patuhi peraturan kediaman
Rules (peraturan) in a housing area help everyone live comfortably and safely, such as no playing in the lift, no clutter in corridors and using the pool at set times. Obeying them shows respect to other residents.
Example: Arif does not play in the lift, does not leave shoes in the corridor and swims only during the set hours.
Watch out: follow the rules even when no guard is watching.
Semak kefahaman
Arif dan kawan-kawannya ingin bermain bola. Di manakah tempat yang menghormati jiran?
choosing the right place = pilih tempat yang sesuai
Playing ball makes noise and may hit people or things. Think: which place is meant for play, does not disturb neighbours and is safer?
Example: ride your bicycle on the park's cycling path, not around the car park.
Watch out: corridors and lifts are shared walkways, not playgrounds.
Fahami
Jaga ketenteraman jiran
keeping the peace = jaga ketenteraman
Every family needs rest. Respecting neighbours means controlling noise, especially at night and rest times, such as turning music down, not slamming doors and not jumping on the floor upstairs.
Example: Arif's brother turns his music down after 10 p.m. so the neighbour's baby can sleep.
Watch out: let neighbours know before holding a party or doing renovations.
Semak kefahaman
Jam menunjukkan pukul 11 malam. Adik Arif mahu bermain dram mainan. Apakah nasihat yang sesuai?
considering the time = ambil kira waktu
Eleven at night is when most people sleep. When should a loud activity be done so it does not disturb the neighbours?
Example: if you want to drill a hole to hang a picture, wait until daytime.
Watch out: playing on the balcony actually carries the sound further.
Amalkan
Adab ziarah-menziarahi jiran
visiting manners = adab menziarahi
When visiting a neighbour: arrange a time or go at a suitable hour; ring the bell and greet, entering only when invited; sit properly and do not touch things freely; do not stay too long. When neighbours visit us, welcome them warmly, offer a seat and a drink.
Example: Arif and his father visit Pak Cik Joseph in the late afternoon with some fruit and leave before dinner time.
Watch out: visiting very late or at mealtimes disturbs people.
Semak kefahaman
manners before entering = adab sebelum masuk
Even if a neighbour's gate is open, we cannot just walk in. Think about the polite first step.
Example: at the door, say, 'Is anyone home? It's Arif from next door.'
Watch out: banging hard on a window can frighten the people inside.
Ingat
Ambil berat, bukan campur tangan
Menghormati jiran juga bermaksud menghormati privasi mereka. Kita mengambil berat, tetapi tidak menyibuk tentang urusan peribadi jiran.
Contoh: Arif terdengar jirannya bertengkar. Dia tidak menceritakannya kepada kawan-kawan.
caring vs interfering = ambil berat dan campur tangan
Caring about neighbours is good, but we must respect their privacy (privasi). We do not pry into or spread news about their family matters, quarrels or belongings. Only when a neighbour needs help or is in danger do we ask an adult to step in.
Example: Arif overhears his neighbours arguing and does not tell his friends about it.
Watch out: turning someone's family matters into gossip is very disrespectful.
Semak kefahaman
Situasi manakah menunjukkan sikap menghormati privasi jiran?
respecting privacy = hormati privasi
Other people's parcels, letters and home life are private. Think which action avoids looking at, opening or peeking into someone else's things.
Example: you find a neighbour's dropped letter and hand it back without opening it.
Watch out: a parcel delivered to us by mistake should be handed to its owner unopened.
Fikir
Hormat membawa kesejahteraan
Apabila jiran saling menghormati, kawasan kediaman menjadi aman, sejahtera dan selesa didiami. Jika tidak, timbul perselisihan.
Contoh: Di pangsapuri Arif, penduduk saling menghormati.
respect brings well-being = hormat membawa kesejahteraan
When neighbours respect each other, the area is peaceful, happy (sejahtera) and pleasant to live in. Without respect, such as careless parking, noise or littering, quarrels start and nobody is happy.
Example: residents in Arif's flat respect one another, rarely quarrel and often join activities together.
Watch out: one person's disrespect can affect the mood of the whole building.
Semak kefahaman
Apakah kesannya jika penghuni pangsapuri tidak menghormati peraturan?
the result of ignoring rules = kesan tidak patuh peraturan
Imagine someone cluttering the corridor, playing in the lift or making noise at midnight. How would other residents react? The question asks for a bad result.
Example: someone leaves rubbish at the staircase, and the neighbours start complaining.
Watch out: bad results are often anger, quarrels or danger.
Pilih semua
Pilih semua perlakuan yang menghormati jiran.
finding respectful actions = cari perlakuan menghormati
Judge each one: does it look after the neighbour's rights, peace and feelings? Blocking someone's gate or spreading their family matters is disrespectful. There are several answers.
Example: letting an elderly person enter the lift first.
Watch out: respect includes following rules, controlling noise and protecting privacy.
Rasai
Bagaimanakah perasaan Arif apabila jiran memujinya kerana sentiasa menghormati mereka?
feeling appreciated = perasaan apabila dihargai
When we respect others and they appreciate us for it, how do we feel inside? Think of a positive feeling.
Example: the guard praises you for parking your bicycle neatly, and you feel happy.
Watch out: 'bangga' here means feeling proud of good behaviour, not showing off.
Ringkasan
Syabas!
