Mereka meminta keluarga Aina membantu memerhatikan rumah mereka. Bagaimanakah Aina boleh menjalankan amanah ini?
responsible = bertanggungjawab
Being responsible means doing your duties and your promises properly. Living in a neighbourhood, we also have duties to our neighbours: looking after what they trust us with, keeping the area clean and caring about community safety.
Example: Encik Jamal's family goes back to their village for a week and asks Aina's family to keep an eye on their house.
Watch out: once you promise something, do it; if you cannot, say so honestly.
Kenali
Menjaga amanah jiran
trust = amanah
When someone trusts us to look after their things or a task, that is an amanah. Once we accept it, we must carry it out honestly and carefully, not carelessly or lazily.
Example: Aina and her father water Encik Jamal's plants and collect his letters every day.
Watch out: looking after someone's house does not mean you may go in or use their things as you like.
Semak kefahaman
Jiran meminta Aina memberi makan ikan peliharaannya selama tiga hari. Apakah tindakan yang bertanggungjawab?
carrying out a trust = laksanakan amanah
When you agree to do something for a neighbour, do it the way you promised. Do not cut corners or hand it to someone else without telling them.
Example: you promise to bring in a neighbour's laundry, so you remember to do it before the rain.
Watch out: giving three days of food at once could make the fish sick.
Fahami
Tanggungjawab hidup berjiran
Sebagai jiran, kita bertanggungjawab:
menjaga kebersihan kawasan rumah
tidak membuat bising pada waktu malam
tidak menghalang laluan jiran
menjaga haiwan peliharaan sendiri
Contoh: Aina memastikan basikalnya tidak menghalang pintu pagar jiran.
duties as neighbours = tanggungjawab berjiran
Living together, everyone has their own duties: not making too much noise, not blocking others' way, putting rubbish in the bin and taking care of their pets. When everyone does their part, the neighbourhood is pleasant.
Example: Aina parks her bicycle so it does not block the neighbour's gate.
Watch out: if your own dog barks all night or fouls everywhere, that is also the owner's responsibility.
Semak kefahaman
Apakah akibatnya jika penduduk mengabaikan tanggungjawab terhadap jiran?
predicting consequences = ramal akibat
Imagine if everyone ignored their duties, for example littering or making noise late at night. How would the neighbours feel, and what would the area become?
Example: if someone keeps parking in front of another person's gate, that neighbour will get angry.
Watch out: this question asks for the bad result, not a benefit.
Amalkan
Bercakap benar apabila tersilap
Contoh: Bola Aina terkena pasu bunga jiran hingga pecah. Aina memberitahu jirannya dan meminta maaf. Ayahnya membantu menggantikan pasu itu.
admitting a mistake = mengaku kesilapan
When you accidentally damage a neighbour's belongings, the responsible thing is to tell them honestly at once, apologise and try to make it right, such as repairing or replacing it. Hiding or lying only destroys trust.
Example: Aina's ball breaks a neighbour's flower pot, so she apologises and her father helps buy a new one.
Watch out: speak up even if nobody saw it happen.
Semak kefahaman
Basikal Kumar tercalar kereta jiran. Tiada sesiapa yang nampak. Apakah yang patut Kumar lakukan?
being upfront = berterus terang
Even when nobody sees, we are still responsible for our own mistakes. Think: which action is honest and brave?
Example: you accidentally step on a neighbour's flowers, so you ring the bell and apologise.
Watch out: blaming someone else is both dishonest and irresponsible.
Amalkan
letting neighbours know = maklumkan kepada jiran
A responsible person does not pretend not to see a problem. If you notice a neighbour's tap left running, door unlocked or laundry blown away, tell them.
Example: Aina sees the tap outside Puan Lee's house running and tells her straight away.
Watch out: if you see a stranger acting suspiciously near a neighbour's house, do not handle it yourself; tell an adult at home.
Semak kefahaman
safety first = keselamatan diri diutamakan
Caring about a neighbour's home is good, but facing a stranger alone is dangerous for a child. The best action is to let an adult know at once, and the adult decides whether to call the police.
Example: seeing smoke from a neighbour's house, you call your parents immediately.
Watch out: pretending not to see is not responsible either.
Bersama
Bersihkan kawasan, cegah denggi
preventing dengue = cegah denggi
The Aedes mosquito spreads dengue fever and lays its eggs in still water. Clearing stagnant water, empty cans and old tyres in the neighbourhood is every resident's duty, because mosquitoes do not bite only one family.
Example: at the weekend Aina and her neighbours throw away empty cans and turn containers holding water upside down.
Watch out: water in plant-pot saucers and roof gutters is often forgotten and must be cleared too.
Semak kefahaman
Mengapakah semua jiran perlu bersama-sama membersihkan kawasan perumahan?
why we share the duty = sebab bertanggungjawab bersama
Cleaning the neighbourhood is not only about looks. Think: what problems do dirt and stagnant water bring, and do they affect one family or the whole area?
Example: mosquitoes bred in one house's stagnant water can bite people all along the street.
Watch out: cleanliness is a lasting habit, not a one-time job.
Pilih semua
Pilih semua tindakan bertanggungjawab terhadap jiran.
finding responsible actions = cari tindakan bertanggungjawab
Judge each action: is it doing your part and caring for neighbours, or does it cause trouble? Do not choose actions that breed mosquitoes or disturb others. There are several answers.
Example: borrowing a neighbour's ladder and returning it right after use.
Watch out: containers left holding water let Aedes mosquitoes breed.
Fikir
Apakah perasaan jiran apabila kita bertanggungjawab?
responsibility and trust = tanggungjawab dan kepercayaan
When we keep our word and look after the area, neighbours feel at ease and are willing to trust us with things. Think which feeling links to being at ease and trusting.
Example: next time the neighbours travel, they confidently ask us to watch their house again.
Watch out: a sense of responsibility is built up bit by bit.
