求相差 = cari beza 用大的金额一万四千三百减去小的八千九百五十。个位零减零得零；十位零不够减五，向百位借，百位三借走一变二，十位变十，十减五得五；百位二不够减九，向千位借一，十二减九得三；千位三不够减八，再向万位借，十三减八得五。答案五千三百五十令吉。 例子：RM6 200 − RM3 750 = RM2 450。 注意：一定是大的数减小的数。

连减 = tolak berturut-turut 装修房子的预算有七万两千令吉，先减去厨房的两万六千四百五十令吉，剩四万五千五百五十令吉。再减去屋顶的一万八千三百七十五令吉六十仙：先补点零零，仙不够减就把一令吉换成一百仙，最后剩两万七千一百七十四令吉四十仙。 例子：RM1 000 − RM300 − RM250.50 = RM449.50。 注意：要按次序一步一步减。

subtract in a row = tolak berturut-turut The renovation budget is RM72 000. Take away RM26 450 for the kitchen to leave RM45 550. Then take away RM18 375.60 for the roof: write .00, change RM1 into 100 sen when needed, and RM27 174.40 is left. Example: RM1 000 − RM300 − RM250.50 = RM449.50. Watch out: subtract one step at a time, in order.

求减数 = cari nilai yang ditolak 原来有六万一千二百零八令吉，减去某个金额后剩三万四千五百二十九令吉四十五仙。被减去的金额等于原来的金额减去剩下的金额，得两万六千六百七十八令吉五十五仙。再用原来的金额减去它检查，刚好剩下题目给的数。 例子：RM800 − □ = RM350 → □ = RM450。 注意：求减数也是用减法。

find the amount taken away = cari nilai yang ditolak The starting amount is RM61 208 and RM34 529.45 is left, so the amount taken away is RM61 208.00 − RM34 529.45 = RM26 678.55. Check: RM61 208 − RM26 678.55 = RM34 529.45. Example: RM800 − □ = RM350, so □ = RM450. Watch out: the amount taken away is also found by subtracting.

从整数金额减 = tolak daripada ringgit bulat 被减的金额是整数令吉，要先在后面写点零零。因为仙位和个位、十位、百位都是零，第一次借位要一路向左找到不是零的那一位，借过的零都会变成九，最右边的仙位变成一百。之后再一位一位减。 例子：RM4 000 − RM1 250.40 = RM2 749.60。 注意：一路借过去时，最左边被借的那一位要少一，中间的零变九，不要忘记改。

subtracting from whole ringgit = tolak daripada ringgit bulat The first amount is whole ringgit, so write .00 after it. Its sen, ones, tens and hundreds are all zero, so the first borrow has to travel left to the first non-zero place; every zero passed over becomes 9 and the rightmost sen place becomes 10 tens of sen. Then subtract place by place. Example: RM4 000 − RM1 250.40 = RM2 749.60. Watch out: the place you borrow from goes down by 1 and the zeros in between become 9; do not forget to change them.

求差 = cari beza “相差多少”要用减法，而且要用大的金额减小的金额。题目先写的是比较小的金额，所以列式时要把次序调过来。大的金额没有仙，要补点零零再减。 例子：RM300 和 RM1 000 的差是 RM1 000 − RM300 = RM700。 注意：“相差”不是“一共”，不能把两个金额加起来。
